Ross Juvenile Detention Center is otherwise known as the Tarrant County Juvenile Detention and may be referred to locally as the Kimbo facility. Offering 128 beds that are used to house both male and female juvenile offenders, all of whom are between 10 and 17 years of age, the facility is able to offer contracts to house additional youth from surrounding areas as needed. Each housing unit has cells that are set around a common area or dayroom, creating small units that function together throughout the day. Each day they will have three healthy meals and a snack, provided with a full day of school each weekday, and they will have time for other programs, recreational time, and physical education. Games, books, and writing materials are provided for recreational time, and there are both indoor and outdoor recreation spaces. Schooling is provided by the local school, and medical and mental health staff are both onsite to provide care for the youth as required. Programs are in place to address crisis intervention, mental health, counseling, and substance abuse among others.
