The Solomon Casseb Jr. Webb County Youth Village was opened in October of 2009, and has been operational since. It has 72 beds that are used for both male and female juvenile offenders while they await their detention hearing, their court trial, or their return to their community. While they are within the facility there are strict rules as the staff and mental health professionals work to help each youth move towards being a productive and responsible adult and member of their community. Academic education is provided by the United Independent School District and classes are held during regular school hours to maintain consistency and promote responsibility. Classes run all year and offer assessments both upon admittance and release with updates to their home schools for how they are doing, any accommodation or adaptations they need, and they will receive credit for the work they complete. Contracts with local medical and mental health professionals ensure that all students receive full care for their physical, mental, and emotional needs, along with healthy meals and rest time. Recreational time is provided each day, along with time for writing, calling, and visiting with family.
