Cochise County Main Jail

The 302-bed Cochise County Main Jail offers inmate information over the phone 24 hours a day at 520-432-7540.

This facility is the first stop for people arrested in the county on misdemeanor and felony charges. Everyone goes through booking and processing, and those who are held stay until they are bonded out, released on their own recognizance, or until their trial is finished.

You can search for current inmates using the inmate search tool.

Inmates sentenced to less than one year serve out their time at this jail. Inmates sentenced to longer terms are transferred to the Arizona State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

This page tells you how to search the official jail roster, reach the facility, and use services like visitation, inmate account funding, mail, phone calls, voicemail, email and texting, tablet rentals, bail bonds, and commissary.

The inmate’s jail ID or booking number is required for many services, so save it. If it’s not online, call Cochise County Main Jail at 520-432-7540.

We’ve answered common questions about finding an inmate in the Cochise County Main Jail, how jail rosters work, and what happens after an offender is arrested and booked in our Frequently Asked Questions and Answers. Still need help? Call 520-432-7540.

The Cochise County Main Jail is licensed for 302 inmates at any given time, but it is often forced to make room for many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails in Arizona turn over at least 40% of their inmate population every month, with another 30% turning over every 90 days and another 20% every six months. About 8-9% stay incarcerated six to twelve months. Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges like rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Cochise County remain in custody at one of the Cochise County facilities much longer.

The starting presumption under Arizona’s court rules is that a defendant is released on their own recognizance. Judges set bail only when that isn’t enough to ensure the defendant returns to court or to protect public safety, so many people arrested in Arizona are released without paying anything.

Each year, Cochise County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 8,040 offenders.

Most people arrested in Cochise County end up at the Cochise County Main Jail at 203 N. Judd Drive, Bisbee, AZ 85603. You can reach the jail at (520) 432-7540 and the Sheriff’s Office at (520) 432-9500. The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Detention Division describes its job as holding pretrial prisoners and carrying out the court’s sentences. That includes people serving county time of up to a year and people sentenced to prison who are waiting for transfer to the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry. The jail is close to 40 years old. It was built for 162 people and later double-bunked to keep up with population growth. In November 2025 county voters approved a half-cent sales tax for a new jail next to the current one, and construction is expected to finish in summer 2029.

The Sheriff also runs temporary holding facilities in Sierra Vista and Willcox. Wherever someone is held, they must see a judge within 24 hours of arrest under Arizona Rule of Criminal Procedure 4.1. Arizona judges start from a presumption of release on the person’s own recognizance (Rule 7.2), and they set bail or other conditions only when it’s needed to secure the person’s return to court or to protect a victim or the public. Under the Arizona Constitution, they can deny bail, after a hearing, only for capital cases or certain serious sexual offenses when the proof is evident, for a felony committed while already out on bail for another felony, or when the person poses a substantial danger that no conditions can manage. Release can be on recognizance, an unsecured bond, a cash bond, a secured appearance bond or through a licensed bail bond agent. Bail can be paid in cash, by credit card or money order, with property in Cochise County, or through a bondsman. Call the jail for the amount and posting hours.

To look up a case, use Arizona’s Public Access to Court Information. If you think there’s a warrant for you, call the Sheriff’s Office or an attorney before you surrender.

Visits don’t take place at the Bisbee jail itself. Combined Public Communications (CPC) runs video visitation, and you schedule at least 48 hours ahead at cpcjail.com. You can visit for free at two county video visitation centers, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., except on county holidays. One is at 1012 G Avenue, 2nd floor, in Douglas, next to Justice Court Precinct 2; the other is at 100 Colonia de Salud, Suite 201, in Sierra Vista. People in general population get two free public visits a week. Visits from home through CPC have no weekly limit. For help with visits, call CPC at (866) 340-7879.

Starting March 16, 2026, personal letters go to [Inmate Name – Inmate ID], Cochise County Jail, AZ, PO Box 76550, Highland Heights, KY 41076, and must meet the jail’s scanning requirements. Legal mail and money orders go to [Inmate Name – Inmate ID], Cochise County Jail, AZ, 203 North Judd Drive, Bisbee, AZ 85603. Money orders are the only form of payment you can mail; never send cash or checks. Letters can be up to 8½ by 11 inches on white paper, with a return address. You can include up to 10 printed photos on photo paper. Don’t send stamps, stickers, glitter, colored drawings, blank envelopes or packages. Call the jail to ask about current options for online deposits, commissary and phone accounts.

Most visitors drive. The City of Bisbee runs a small local bus with no Sunday service; call the city to ask whether a stop is near Judd Drive. For gas, Conoco is at 101 Arizona Street in Warren and Speedway is at 906 AZ-92. Jimmy’s Hot Dog Co at 938 AZ-92 and Burger King at 1121 S. Naco Highway are close by for a quick meal.
