Arrested in Stuttgart or DeWitt: finding someone in the Arkansas County jail

Arkansas County has two county seats, Stuttgart in the north and DeWitt in the south, and rice fields in between. Grown-ups picked up anywhere in the county land in the Arkansas County Jail, a sheriff's facility at 1000 Ricebelt Avenue, DeWitt, AR 72042. Check the Sheriff's official inmate search for custody, bond and charges.

This page covers lookups, bond, court, visits, calls, money, mail, medical needs, holds and transfers. The sheriff's roster asks whether you want current inmates or recent releases; pick current, then search by last name. Even when Stuttgart police make the arrest, the person usually rides down to DeWitt for booking, so a booking from the last hour or two might not be posted yet.

Your first call is the jail at 870-659-2064. Ask whether your loved one is still there, what the bond is now, and whether a visit is on the calendar. Getting someone out is covered on our bail page, and hearings in Stuttgart and DeWitt on our criminal court page.

Postal inspectors, the ATF, the Marshals Service, or Homeland Security Investigations make federal arrests. A federal case is heard by Arkansas's Eastern District, Delta Division, at the federal courthouse in Helena: 617 Walnut Street, Helena, AR 72342. No clerk works in Helena; call Little Rock at 501-604-5351. Often by the next weekday, they see a U.S. magistrate judge. Expect questions from pretrial services before court. U.S. court doesn't use a bail table. A judge settles the release terms at a short hearing following federal bail law.

Try the local inmate list, where the hold can be listed. Before trial, U.S. Marshals usually place federal prisoners in a nearby jail. The U.S. Marshals office for this part of the state is at 600 West Capitol Avenue, Suite A328, Little Rock, AR 72201. Call 501-324-6256 to ask about the person. 16. Did ICE put a hold on someone?

  • When someone is booked, their prints are checked against federal databases. ICE may then file a detainer (Form I-247A).
  • Even with bond posted, this hold remains in place.
  • Through the I-247A, ICE asks the jail to put off the release for at most 48 hours. That's two straight days, measured from release time.
  • Within that window, ICE often sends officers to pick them up. If ICE never comes, this means release on the local case.
  • Families can follow the person online through the locator site; it needs an A-number plus birth country. ICE also offers a search by name for families without the A-number; give it birth date, birth country and both first and last names.
  • Only ICE chooses the detention center, and it can change.
  • Write or call the New Orleans field office of ICE: 181 James Drive W, St. Rose, LA 70087; phone 504-318-2360.

17. Sentenced to state prison: what happens now

State prison terms are handled through the ADC. They often wait in the DeWitt jail until the ADC picks them up, which may take weeks. The transfer ends at reception, where new prisoners get booked into the system. There, the ADC looks at security level, their medical and mental health and gang connections. Their last stop is a unit that fits their rating.

The ADC inmate search shows their unit after intake. The Arkansas state prison page has prison addresses.

Newsrooms wanting a jail photo should start with the sheriff's office on 870-659-2060 and ask what the office will release. Federal agencies don't hand out booking photos to reporters or families. A federal mugshot gets out only through the Marshals, to find a wanted fugitive, if release would help track them down or warn people or when people nearby must be warned now. Anyone seeking an ICE mugshot must go through a FOIA request to ICE; release is ICE's call.
