About the Walker County Jail

Walker County Jail is located at 2001 2nd Avenue, Jasper, Alabama, 35501 and has a capacity of 250 inmates.

It was built in 1997 and is a medium-security Adult facility. It was originally built as a modular facility, allowing for the addition of more units if needed.

The monthly average of total bookings in Walker County Jaill is 297.

Inmates at the jail are allowed two 45-minute onsite video visits each week, and can receive money through a trust account or Money Order sent through the postal service. They can also receive mail from loved ones while incarcerated, however all mail must have the inmates' names and a return address and be subject to approval from the sheriff's department.

Money can also be sent to inmates through various methods, as well as calls from family members if they set up their phone to receive calls from the jail with EverCom at 1-800-844-6591. Remote (at-home) video visitation is allowed on Sundays for Dorms A and D from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and for all other dorms from 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM, and inmates' property can only be picked up when they are still in the jail on Saturdays from 8 AM to 11 AM or 1 PM to 3 PM. Visiting an inmate in the jail is by appointment only and follows the inmates' housing.

The jail has a free mobile app (Google Play and Apple App Store) that allows the public to receive information regarding current inmates in the facility.

The jail houses inmates with mental health issues, those awaiting trial, and those serving a sentence. It provides health services to inmates following Walker County County Health guidelines and also offers reintegration programming to male convicted criminals. The Sheriff has requested the assistance of two outside agencies to create a safer environment for inmates and staff at the jail.

In addition to its purpose as a correctional facility, Walker County Jail has also been repurposed as a cafe and event space. The cafe serves food items for $6 or under.

The contact number for the Walker County Sheriff's Department is 205-302-6464 and the fax number is 205-302-6101. The Walker County Sheriff's Office also operates a Mercy Project program which allows drug offenders to enter treatment instead of going to jail.

In addition to normal at-the-jail visits, Walker County Jail uses Securus Video Connect for Remote Inmate Video Visitation.

Video Visitation allows 'approved' friends, family members, attorneys and clergy of an inmate to connect with them using their computer, Securus Video Visitation app, or ‘on-site’ kiosk.

Steps:
Register and/or log in.
Select the facility of your inmate.
Review the days, available hours and the cost of remote and on-site visits.
Schedule your visit.

What is the Cost of a Remote Video Visit?
Costs vary and are subject to change, but generally visits range from $5.00 to 15.00 for a 15 to 30 minute online or on-site video visit.

How do you know if your Inmate will be available during the time you schedule?
The Securus system knows the times that Walker County Jail inmates are available for remote video visits.
It will not allow you to schedule a visit with your inmate if they are not available or the video visitation kiosk(s) in the jail are booked already.
Once you schedule a visit with your inmate they will be notified of the date and time of the visit.

Important Tips:
Your entire visit is being monitored and recorded. Do not say or do anything that you would not want being replayed in court.
You should schedule your visit, in advance, at a time that works best for you.
For best sound quality, use earbuds or headsets.

Inmate Money Accounts

How Do You Deposit Money for an Inmate in the Walker County Jail?

There are FOUR options for putting money on an inmate's books:

Option 1 - Dropping Money at the Jail
Bring money to the jail in person.
Either the jail personnel will process the Inmate Account payment or you will use a Jail ATM self-serve kiosk in the lobbies that accepts cash, debit or credit cards.

Option 2 - Deposit Inmate Money Online
Walker County Jail uses Jail ATM to process all online deposits to an inmate's account. The company charges you a small fee for doing so, but the fee probably isn't as much as gas and parking would cost to take it to the jail in person.

Option 3 - Mail the Inmate Deposit to the Jail
Mailing a deposit takes more time to process than the other methods but can be done if you live too far away to bring it in person and you don't have a debit/credit card for online deposits. Never send cash. Always send a Money Order from the US Post Office, a reputable bank or Western Union. Call the Walker County Jail first as they may want you to do this online or at the jail kiosk instead.
Make the Money Order out to the inmate's name and put their Inmate ID# in memo section of the Money Order.
2001 2nd Avenue
Jasper, AL 35501

Option 4 - Make an Inmate Deposit with Jail ATM over the Phone by calling 877-810-0914
To do this you will need the inmate's offender # (inmate ID #) and full legal name.
