This facility conducts booking and processing for all misdemeanor and felony arrests in the county. Inmates whose charges require detention remain here until they bond out, are released on their own recognizance, or are held through the end of their trial.

Genesis Facility Inmate Search
Florida law entitles most people arrested in Orange County to reasonable pretrial release, unless they are charged with a capital or life felony and the proof is evident, or a judge finds no conditions would protect the public. Lower-level misdemeanors and traffic cases are often handled with a notice to appear. Bond amounts for most other charges come from a uniform statewide bond schedule set by the Florida Supreme Court.
The easiest way to learn an offender’s bail at the Genesis Facility is to call 407-836-3400. For a general idea, compare the charge to the Florida uniform statewide bond schedule for 2026. Circuits may set higher local amounts, and a judge at first appearance, usually within 24 hours, can set a different bond. The county takes cash, surety bonds, and property bonds, and can also release an offender on personal recognizance.
The Genesis Facility’s license covers 220 inmates, but the jail often has to make room for many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails in Florida experience a monthly turnover of at least 35-40%, another 25-30% every 90 days, and another 15-20% every six months, with about 8-9% of inmates staying six to twelve months. Those who stay longer than a year usually face serious charges such as rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in this county remain in one of the Orange County facilities much longer.

Within the Orange County, Florida, Department of Corrections, there are several facilities that serve different purposes within the complex and the department.
Within the Orange County Corrections Department there are several detention centers including the Orange County Booking and Release Center, the Female Detention Center, Horizon Facility, Genesis Facility, Phoenix Facility, and the Whitcomb Facility for direct supervision units, the Work Release Center, and the Main Jail Facility.
The Genesis Facility has 220 beds that house inmates after it was built to relieve overcrowding in other facilities. It is operated on a direct supervision basis with each of the housing pods having a control center and officers who are interacting with them within the pods throughout the day. They are responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the pod and the facility overall, as well as intervening when necessary, encouraging positive social interactions, and moving inmates around the facility for meals, classes, programs, and recreation time.
Within the facility there are medical services provided, with transportation to a nearby hospital or clinic for more serious issues or illness. Courtrooms are provided for those who have court dates to save on the transportation, and all inmates will be booked into the facility and released from the Booking and Release Center, then transferred to their housing unit at their final facility assignment. Housing assignments are determined at the time of booking and will maintain separation between genders, security levels, and keeping separation of those who are involved in the same cases.
Safety is the main concern, with cameras offering an alternative view, officers in the pods to respond to needs as they arise and to build relationships with inmates which reduce stresses and incidents within the pod, and door locks and fences to keep inmates in their assigned spaces where they need to be. There are several programs offered in this location to provide both educational and vocational opportunities to all inmates.
Basic academics are covered for those who did not finish school and inmates will be able to attain their GED while incarcerated, and programming with encourage life skills such as communication, anger management, budgeting, and others. Vocational training allows some inmates to leave with more employable skills and improved employment opportunities, reducing recidivism.

Mail must not come from another detention center and has a full return address along with no adult content or discussion of illegal activities. Paperback books may also be sent to inmates, along with newspapers or magazines, up to four at a time.
To book a visit for the first time through the visitation center family members may call 407-836-8061, and further visits are booked online at the GTL site that also creates an account to receive phone calls from inmates for $0.145/minute.
Following an arrest, individuals are processed at Genesis Facility. The booking process confirms identity, charges, and whether the individual will be released, granted bail, or held until court.
