Lane County Youth Services operates several programs, including the detention program. Upon arrest a youth may be given a situation and released, they may be held until they are provided with a court date within 36 hours to determine if they will remain detained or will be released, or they may be held until their trial is completed and they have been adjudicated. Also operating the diversion programs, to prevent youth from being detained through community service or home supervision, and the probation and parole programs. Parents are provided with all court dates, times they can accept calls from their youth, and any information on progress in school, medical care, and mental health treatments, as well as when they are able to visit. Other counties also have access to the facility to house their own truant or delinquent juvenile offenders including Eugene and Springfield, but they are not included or addressed by the Lane County Youth Services other than for detention purposes. Youth who fall under the juvenile services are 12-17 years old and are referred to the programs by law enforcement. Mail: All mail can be checked for contraband before delivery and may be returned or denied if it is against the rules or contains illegal content. Phones: Juveniles who end up in detention will be permitted to call their parents or immediate family at least once a week. Visitation: Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoon, only family are permitted to visit.
