Comal County Jail Recent Bookings And Arrests
Comal County Recent Arrest and Booking Information
Recent Arrests and Booking at the Comal County Jail
Whether the arrest was made by the Sheriff's Office or by police in New Braunfels, Bulverde or Garden Ridge, the person is booked at the county jail, 3000 IH 35 South, New Braunfels, TX 78130. Booking status is given at 830-620-3450 with the person's legal name and birth date, and new bookings also appear in IVSS County Inmate Search.
Seven steps between arrest and a housing unit
- Search and intake. The arresting officer turns the person over to jail staff, who search them and record the arrest paperwork and charges.
- Photo and fingerprints. A booking photo and prints are taken, and a jail record is created. That record carries the SO Number families later need for mail and deposits.
- Property. Clothing, cash and personal items are inventoried and stored. After release, anything left behind must be collected within 30 days.
- Medical and mental-health screening. Staff ask about health problems, medications and suicide risk, as Texas jail standards require. When there are signs of mental illness or an intellectual disability, Article 16.22 of the Code of Criminal Procedure gives the sheriff 12 hours to notify the magistrate.
- Phone call. When a new arrival can make a call depends on how intake is going. If you are waiting to hear from someone, call the jail at 830-620-3450.
- Magistration. Within 48 hours, and usually at the next daily hearing, a magistrate in the jail's Magistrate Court (830-643-3844) goes over the charges and rights, checks the Public Safety Report, fixes the bond amount and hears any request for appointed counsel.
- Bond or housing. The person can then be released on a bond (see our Comal County bail guide) or is classified and moved to a housing unit.
Booking time varies with how many arrests are waiting, so a person may not show in the county's Record Search right away.
