Every detail on this page is checked by hand, not scraped. This unofficial directory helps friends and family of incarcerated individuals find critical information — inmate lists, locations, bail resources, visitation hours, rules, and text, phone, email, and mail services — for jails, detention centers, and prisons across the United States.
Information about inmates at the 242-bed Elmore County Jail is available by calling 334-567-5441 at any hour.
People arrested in the county for misdemeanors and felonies are brought here and go through booking and processing. If their charges require it, they remain in custody until they bond out, are released on their own recognizance, or are held until the conclusion of their trial.
Look up the facility’s current roster with the inmate search tool.
Inmates sentenced to less than one year serve their time at this jail. Longer sentences are served in the Alabama State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
This page provides guidance on the visitation schedule, funding an inmate’s account, mailing an inmate, phone calls, voicemail, email and text messaging, tablet rentals, bail bonds, and commissary.
Keep the inmate’s jail ID or booking number for communication purposes. If you can’t find it online, call Elmore County Jail at 334-567-5441.

Our Frequently Asked Questions and Answers cover finding an inmate in the Elmore County Jail, understanding jail rosters, and what happens after someone is arrested and booked. You can also call 334-567-5441 for further assistance.
The Elmore County Jail is licensed for 242 inmates, though it is often forced to accept many more, especially on weekends. Most city and county jails turn over at least 40% of inmates monthly, 30% more every 90 days, and 20% more every six months, with roughly 8-9% remaining six to twelve months. Stays of more than a year are usually tied to serious charges like rape or murder. Those cases take longer to prepare for trial, so offenders arrested in Elmore County remain at the Elmore County facility much longer.
Every year, law enforcement agencies in Elmore County arrest and detain approximately 4,840 offenders.
If someone you love was arrested in Elmore County, they are most likely at the Elmore County Jail, 8955 U.S. Highway 231 in Wetumpka. The Elmore County Sheriff’s Office runs the jail around the clock, and staff answer inmate questions 24 hours a day at (334) 567-5441. The facility is licensed for 242 beds and often holds more. It houses men and women on county charges, municipal inmates, and people waiting to be transferred to the Alabama Department of Corrections, with charges ranging from violations to felonies. The sheriff’s online roster at https://www.elmoreso.com/inmate-roster/disclaim shows who is in custody.
Booking comes first, and then the first court appearance. Alabama Rule of Criminal Procedure 4.3 says that must happen without unnecessary delay and within 72 hours of arrest. Elmore County belongs to the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit along with Autauga and Chilton counties. Anyone picked up on an “FTA” (failure to appear) writ should know that the sheriff can’t simply approve bond. The person has to see a judge or meet whatever conditions the writ lists, such as paying fines or child support. You can look up cases on Alacourt (https://v2.alacourt.com/), and the sheriff keeps a Most Wanted list at https://www.elmoreso.com/most-wanted/disclaim. Anyone who suspects an outstanding warrant should contact the sheriff’s office or a lawyer before turning themselves in.
Alabama’s Constitution guarantees bail to most defendants. Capital cases are the exception when proof is evident or the presumption great, and Aniah’s Law (2022) lets judges hold people without bail after a detention hearing on charges of murder; first-degree kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, burglary, arson, or robbery; aggravated child abuse and certain crimes against children; and terrorism. Amendment 1, approved by 81.6% of voters in May 2026, added solicitation, attempt, or conspiracy to commit murder, and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle. Judges start from the Rule 7.2 schedule, for example $10,000–$60,000 for a Class A felony, $5,000–$30,000 for Class B, $300–$6,000 for a Class A misdemeanor, and $1,000–$7,500 for DUI, and can move up or down from there. A defendant may be released on personal recognizance, an unsecured appearance bond, or a secured bond using cash, property, or a bail bond company. Call the jail to confirm the bond amount; cash, credit, money orders, bondsmen, and real estate are all accepted.
Video visitation machines are in the jail, and families can also visit remotely by phone or computer through NCIC. Create an account at account.ncic.com or call (800) 943-2189, and book at least 24 hours ahead. On-site visits are free on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 to 10:30 a.m. and noon to 4:00 p.m., for up to two guests (a third is allowed if that person is a child under 6). Remote visits run daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and cost $5.95 for 20 minutes. No bus line reaches this stretch of Highway 231, so most visitors drive.
Wetumpka Pacecar at 8431 US-231 and Chevron at 8350 US-231 are just down the highway from the jail. Guthrie’s Chicken Fingers at 26 Line Dr and Dairy Queen at 308 S Main St are good quick stops in town.
Mail is postcards only; letters in envelopes get returned. Address them to the inmate’s full name and ID number, Elmore County Jail, 8955 US Highway 231, Wetumpka, AL 36092. Inmates can receive two softback books a month shipped from publishers or retailers such as Amazon or Books-A-Million. The Stacy Williams Company runs commissary. Add funds at the kiosk in the sheriff’s office lobby with cash or card, or online at correctpay.com; inmates can spend up to $150 a week. Phone calls, messaging, and tablets go through NCIC. Don’t drop off property for an inmate without getting approval first. Sentenced inmates who have a job can apply for work release. Their employer fills out an application, paychecks go to jail staff, and the sheriff approves each case.
After an arrest, individuals are transported to Elmore County Jail for the booking process. This procedure ensures the person’s identity, assesses charges, and determines if they will be released, eligible for bail, or detained until court.
Remaining silent during this process is vital. Anything said could be used as evidence, so it’s wise to wait for an attorney before speaking about the arrest.
