Every detail on this page is checked by hand, not scraped. This unofficial directory helps friends and family of incarcerated individuals find critical information — inmate lists, locations, bail resources, visitation hours, rules, and text, phone, email, and mail services — for jails, detention centers, and prisons across the United States.
For inmate information, the 232-bed Chilton County Jail can be reached at 205-755-1053 24 hours a day.
This facility conducts booking and processing for all misdemeanor and felony arrests in the county. Inmates whose charges require detention remain here until they bond out, are released on their own recognizance, or are held through the end of their trial.
The inmate search tool gives you access to the list of people currently in custody.
Those serving a sentence of less than one year serve it at this jail. Those with a sentence of a year or longer are transferred to the Alabama State Prison System or the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
This page gives you information about the visitation schedule, how to fund an inmate’s account, mail an inmate, receive phone calls, use voicemail, send emails and texts, rent tablets, post bail, and purchase commissary.
Save the inmate’s jail ID or booking number, as it’s commonly needed for mail. If you can’t locate it online, call Chilton County Jail at 205-755-1053.

Chilton County Jail Inmate Search
We’ve compiled a helpful list of Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about finding an inmate in the Chilton County Jail, how jail rosters work, and what happens after booking. For further assistance, call 205-755-1053.
The Chilton County Jail is licensed for 232 inmates, but on weekends especially, it is often forced to hold many more. Most city and county jails turn over at least 40% of their inmate population monthly, another 30% every 90 days, and another 20% every six months, while approximately 8-9% remain six to twelve months. Stays of more than twelve months usually involve serious charges such as rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Chilton County stay at the Chilton County facility much longer.
Each year, Chilton County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 4,640 offenders.
The Chilton County Jail at 301 City Street in Clanton takes in and releases people 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The jail belongs to the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff John Shearon, and Warden Ann Davis commands its staff of about 30 correctional officers. It has 232 beds for men and women facing misdemeanor and felony charges, people serving county sentences, and those waiting to transfer to state or federal custody. The jail’s main line is (205) 755-1053. The sheriff’s administrative office, at 53 Robert Threlkeld Parkway, is at (205) 755-4698. Southern Health Partners provides on-site medical, dental, and mental health care, and family can drop off medication or eyeglasses at any hour. The Jail Ministry Program holds services, and immediate family can sometimes arrange a short local funeral viewing.
The sheriff posts an inmate roster and a most wanted page. The jail doesn’t give out release dates. Court records are on Alacourt. If you might have a warrant, contact the sheriff’s office or a lawyer before turning yourself in. By Alabama Rule of Criminal Procedure 4.3, a judge must see each arrested person without unnecessary delay and within 72 hours. Chilton is in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit with Autauga and Elmore counties.
How you post bond depends on the type. Cash bonds are paid at the Circuit Clerk’s office on the third floor of the courthouse, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Property bonds are accepted at the jail 24/7 and require property worth three times the bond. Approved bonding companies can post the rest, but bonds above $1,000,000 need court approval. Under Alabama’s constitution, bail is the rule for most defendants. Capital cases can be held without it when proof is evident or the presumption great. After a detention hearing, Aniah’s Law (2022) also lets a judge deny bail for murder, first-degree kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, burglary, arson, robbery, aggravated child abuse and certain crimes against children, and terrorism. In May 2026, Amendment 1 (81.6% yes) extended that to solicitation, attempt, or conspiracy to commit murder and shooting into an occupied building or vehicle. Rule 7.2’s guide ranges from $10,000–$60,000 for Class A felonies and $5,000–$30,000 for Class B to $300–$6,000 for Class A misdemeanors and $1,000–$7,500 for DUI. Judges can deviate from it or release someone on personal recognizance or an unsecured appearance bond.
Securus runs video visits, which must be scheduled 24 hours ahead. On-site visits at the jail are free, with up to two guests plus a child under 6. Visits run 8:00 a.m.–10:30 p.m. daily, with a break from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Remote Securus Video Connect sessions cost $10 for 20 minutes. A parent or guardian has to set up visits for minors, and a dress code applies.
No public bus serves the jail; most visitors drive. Just off 7th Street South, the Marathon at 500 7th St S and Murphy USA at 1411 7th St S sell fuel. American Deli at 502 7th St S is next to that Marathon, and Sonic is at 1103 7th St N.
Personal mail isn’t delivered on paper. It is scanned, so send it to the person’s name and ID, Chilton County Jail, C/O Securus DMC, PO Box 22706, Tampa, FL 33622. Legal mail goes directly to 301 City Street. Deposits can be made at the jail kiosk (cash or card) or at team3.inmatecanteen.com; personal checks aren’t accepted. Deposit by 5:00 a.m. Monday for that Wednesday’s commissary delivery. Phone accounts, eMessaging, and tablets are through Securus ((800) 844-6591), and all calls may be recorded.
Once arrested, the person is taken to Chilton County Jail for booking, a process that confirms identity, assesses charges, and determines if they will be released on their own recognizance, posted for bail, or held until court.
Staying silent is key during this process, as anything spoken can be used as evidence in court. It’s best to wait for legal counsel before responding to questions.
Steps involved in booking at Chilton County Jail include:
Booking can range from an hour to 48 hours depending on the circumstances. To check on an offender’s bond amount, contact Chilton County Jail at 205-755-1053.
After an arrest, individuals are brought to Chilton County Jail in Clanton for processing. Following this, three possible outcomes exist:
1. The individual may be released without posting bail, with a promise to appear in court.
2. The individual could be held in jail until their court date.
3. Bail or bond can be posted for release; for more information, contact 205-755-1053.
