New Castle County Juvenile Detention Center

With 64 beds total, New Castle County Juvenile Detention Centre houses all of the male and female young offenders who are waiting for their trial to begin or to be completed. Only those who are under the age of 18 may be housed at this facility, keeping youth safe from the influence and safety risks of being held with adult offenders. Throughout their incarceration students will have access to HIV prevention, aggression resistance, drug education, addictions treatment, gardening classes, cooking, and dance classes, among others. General education is continued by the local schools to ensure each youth remains up to date with their coursework and on track to graduate with their peers. Medical, dental, and psychological services are provided as needed to improve the mental and physical health of residents. Cognitive behavior training is used to encourage healthy habits and positive decisions. Mail: Mail is permitted when it is correctly addressed, has a full return address, contains no contraband or illegal conversations, and does not come from someone who is being held at another facility. All mail will be read and censored, rejected, or approved and provided to the resident. Phase 1 has phone privileges Tuesdays, Phase 2 is Tuesday and Wednesday, and Phase 3 can call Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Visitation: Visits occur from 6pm to 7pm on the assigned day, with residents whose last name starts with A to L having visits Tuesdays and M to Z on Thursday.
