At most city and county jails in Florida, at least 35-40% of inmates turn over monthly, and another 25-30% turn over every 90 days. Another 15-20% turn over every six months, and approximately 8-9% remain incarcerated six to twelve months. Inmates held longer than twelve months are usually facing serious charges like rape or murder. Because those cases take longer to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in this county remain in custody at one of the Holmes County facilities much longer.

The Sheriff’s website also spells the street “Lonnie Lindsey” in some places. The Sheriff’s main office is at 1173 E. Highway 90. For the jail, call (850) 547-3681 and choose option 2. The jail holds people awaiting court along with county- and state-sentenced inmates. It also runs a full kitchen that serves more than 50,000 meals a year, a work release center, a 12-step drug program and on-site medical staff. Sentences over a year are served in state prison.
Holmes County is in Florida’s Fourteenth Judicial Circuit. First appearance happens within 24 hours of arrest under Florida Rule 3.130. The Sheriff’s Office says booking receives first appearance results from the Clerk around 11 a.m. each day, so if you’re calling about bond for someone just arrested, wait until then. Most people have a constitutional right to pretrial release on reasonable conditions (Fla. Const. Art. I, §14). The exceptions are capital or life felonies with strong proof, or when no conditions can protect the community. Until the judge rules, the Florida Supreme Court’s 2026 statewide bond schedule sets minimum amounts. Local amounts may be higher, some charges require a hearing, and the judge can depart from the schedule. Many minor misdemeanors end with a notice to appear.
To post the full bond yourself, bring a cashier’s check, certified check or money order payable to the “Holmes County Clerk of Courts.” The bond information page lists local bondsmen, though jail staff can’t recommend one. A bondsman charges the state-filed premium of 10% with a $100 minimum on state bonds (§648.33), and you won’t get it back.
Visits are limited. In-person visits are by request, only after the inmate has been in jail for 30 days, and at least 30 days apart unless the jail administrator approves a special visit. Bring a driver’s license or photo ID. Inmates can make only collect calls through AmTel at (800) 849-6081, and they can’t receive incoming calls. Mail goes to the inmate’s name, 3207 Lonnie Lindsey Drive, Bonifay, FL 32425, and must include your return address. Greeting cards, packages, cash and pens are not allowed. For money, use JailATM or the jail kiosk, which takes cash or cards. Card deposits carry a 10% fee. Check warrants on FDLE’s wanted persons search, but call the Sheriff’s Office too, since not every warrant is online.
No public bus serves Bonifay, so you’ll need a ride. Along S. Waukesha Street (State Road 79), you’ll find Southern Express Chevron at 2015 S. Waukesha St. and Circle K at 416 S. Waukesha St. McDonald’s, open 24 hours, is at 2010 S. Waukesha St., and Hardee’s is at 2111 S. Waukesha St.
