The Tippah County Detention Center maintains an average of 50 offenders in custody on any given day. The Tippah County Detention Center has a monthly turnover of 40% of their inmate population, another 30% turnover every 90 days, another 20% every six months, and approximately 10% stay incarcerated between six and twelve months. Every year Tippah County law enforcement agencies arrest and detain approximately 1,000 offenders.
⇓ Learn more ⇓ Show lessThe one story red brick structure found right in town that houses the 50-bed Tippah County Detention Center has a sign out front announcing the Law Enforcement Center, that also includes the Sheriff Office and other law enforcement agencies. It provides a large recreation yard in the back of the building, which runs alongside a set of train tracks, to provide both indoor and outdoor recreation for all inmates regardless of how long they remain.
Most offenders, both for felony and misdemeanor offenses, who are arrested in Tippah County will remain here after their arrest and until they have their trial or make bail, or as they serve a sentence or beginning of a sentence, will remain at this location under a year. To ensure that each offender has their time in court and can receive bail quickly, there are at least three days in which the court interacts with the jail and provides arraignment and other court procedures.
Offenders will also receive three meals every day, access to recreation, opportunities to exercise, access to medical care both emergent and ongoing, mental health support and counseling, time and supplies for hygiene needs, and other care.

- Only those listed on an inmate's Visitation Form will be permitted to visit. Inmates are given this form when they are assigned a cell.
- Visitors must have a current, valid photo identification (such as a driver's license) in order to visit.
- All visitors, on their first visit, must complete a Visitor Information Form. They will then be checked to determine whether they have any outstanding warrants.
- Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is on the approved list, do not need to be listed on an approved visitation list themselves.
- Each inmate is allowed one hour of visitation per week on their assigned day and time. You must check with your inmate for this date and time.
- Requests for exceptions and special requests must be forwarded through a Corrections Officer to a Shift Supervisor for approval.
- A Shift Supervisor may extend visits by reason of distance traveled, past infrequent visits, or other reason.
