Juvenile Residential Center at Bridgeport
To improve the quality of life and the programming available, the Bridgeport Superior Court for Juvenile Matters and Detention Center were combined and offer services of both the court system as well as the detention of juvenile offenders in the same location. This removes the requirement to transport to the court and back, reducing the chances of being late or missing court dates. The building is large and airy with open spaces for recreation both inside and out, as well as individual rooms for each of the residents and common areas with large windows permitting plenty of natural light. It was designed to replace the previous juvenile facility with a safe, secure, and efficient facility. Space is available for up to 84 residents, and it is fully developed with classrooms, a gymnasium, commercial food services to provide healthy meals, a library, and a full art room. During the design there was a focus on creating a facility that mimics a school rather than a jail, and an attempt was made to use colors and lighting that felt homey and comforting. Mail: Residents are permitted to both send and receive mail that is correctly addressed with a complete return address. 60 Housatonic Ave, Bridgeport, CT 06608 Phones: Phone calls are permitted to those who are on the approved phone call list and during recreation or free hours only. Warrant Search
The Connecticut Judicial Branch keeps an online list of arrest warrants for three situations: violation of probation, failure to appear on existing charges, and orders to incarcerate issued by a judge. Other warrants, including most issued during police investigations, are not on the list, so a search with no results doesn’t rule out a warrant.
Court Case Lookup
Information on most Connecticut court cases is available to the public online. The Judicial Branch’s case look-up covers the Supreme Court, the Appellate Court, and the Superior Court, including criminal cases statewide. Juvenile, youthful offender, and sealed records are kept confidential.

How Bail Works in Connecticut
Bail is first addressed at the police station. After an arrest, police may release the person on a written promise to appear in court or set a bond amount. If the person stays in custody, a specialist from the Court Support Services Division, known as an intake, assessment and referral specialist and formerly called a bail commissioner, can review and modify the bond. The final decision rests with the judge at the defendant’s first court appearance. Bail can be paid in full as a cash bond, or posted as a surety bond through a licensed bondsman. Bondsmen charge a state-regulated fee of 10% on the first $5,000 of the bond and 7% on the remainder.

Although the Juvenile Residential Center at Bridgeport is licensed for 25 inmates, it frequently holds more than that, particularly on weekends. Unlike most states, Connecticut has no county jails, so there is no separate local jail system. Instead, the state Department of Correction houses people awaiting trial and people serving sentences, often in the same building. Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven, and Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Centers act as the state’s main jails for men, and York Correctional Institution fills that role for women. Cheshire, Garner, and MacDougall-Walker hold a smaller number of pretrial detainees. By contrast, Brooklyn Correctional Institution and the Cybulski Community Reintegration Center don’t hold pretrial inmates at all, and Osborn and Robinson Correctional Institutions hold almost none. At the facilities with pretrial detainees, at least 35-40% of the population turns over every month, another 25-30% every 90 days, and another 15-20% every six months, with roughly 8-9% staying six to twelve months. Inmates who stay longer than a year are usually charged with serious crimes like murder or rape, and because those cases take a long time to prepare for trial, offenders arrested in Fairfield County for them stay in custody much longer.
