In many jails and most prisons, inmates and their loved ones are allowed to message each other using private, secure electronic messagings systems that are referred to as email.
Friends and family members on the outside must first register with the messaging service. Most require either a credit or debit card, although some allow the services to be prepaid with a money order.
Some email services have limits that allow you to send an email letter with attachments, but do not allow the inmate to respond to you electronically.
All incoming and outgoing messages are screened for content before being forwarded to the inmate or the inmate’s outside contact. Any violation of the institution’s email policies will result in complete loss of these privileges.
