What is bail?

The US Criminal Justice System allows courts to accept a pledge of money or liquid asset from an offender, an offender’s loved ones or a third party agent (bailbondsman) in order to secure their temporary release. The offender agrees to return for all court dates or will forfeit the amount pledged.
